Pho on Phorth Street

After the longest hottest summer we can remember.  It has been great to prop open the door on 4th street and cook something slow and yummy.  We have been wanting to try our hand at Pho, the wonderful Vietnamese beef noodle soup.  Stephanie spent an evening making the broth out of oxtails, chuck roast, beautiful dried and fresh spices and of course fish sauce!  The next night we had a couple of friends over to sample

Stephanie boils water for the rice sticks

Pretty bowls and fresh herbs

Nam Hai was out of Thai Basil
So we used sweet basil, mint, cilantro and bean sprouts

Some jalepenos, limes, rooster and hoisen sauce

Once our guests arrived and the broth was simmering, the bowls were prepared
Noodles

shredded chuck from the broth and paper thin sirloin

It was pretty Phabulous

We Are Still Here

We have been bad about posting lately, but not much has changed here on 4th Street

Doing a lot of cooking at the loft.  Here's Steph picking out some crazy vegetables at Nam Hai

We do get out and about as well
Here are two of our favorite new dads  spotted at Winston Peraza's  fabulous art show right around the corner.

I know you are, but what am I

Pee Wee enjoys the view onto 4th Street.  The workday is over and it's time to transition from the office to home.  Usually we attempt to leave the building and upon re-entry, after a walk in the neighborhood with Roxy, a trip to the park or the corner tavern, we do our best to hang our hat and call it home.   It's not always easy when the office and the kitchen/living space are virtually one but we are learning.  Can the scent of something simmering be far behind?

S. paints on hot summer afternoon in her Walmart Greeter Apron.

So...one of the first things we promised ourselves when we created this space was that we would make it a place where we would do things we feel passionate about : photography, painting, cooking, eating, entertaining.   Our hope is to create a salon environment where artists can show their work...but I am getting ahead of myself. We just got here.
